About Home4theHolidays.org: “Home 4 the Holidays” began in 1999 when Helen Woodward Animal Center organized 14 animal shelters in San Diego County, California to work together during the holiday season and urge families to adopt their new pets from shelters and rescue groups. The initial campaign placed 2,563 pets into homes. The number of animals placed into homes has grown exponentially over the years and in 2007, “Home 4 the Holidays” completed 491,612 adoptions bringing their total placement since the program’s inception to 2,066,678. The “Home 4 the Holidays” drive has 2,762 participating animal shelters and pet rescue organizations in 15 countries around the world. This year, the campaign will run from November 3rd through January 5th.
The Sad Facts: Five-million pets are euthanized in the United States each year because they have no homes. “Home 4 the Holidays” asks families to give the greatest gift of all during the holiday season (or any time of year) by saving the life of an orphaned pet. For more information about “Home 4 the Holidays” or to locate a participating animal shelter or rescue group, please visit www.home4theholidays.org.
